Gemini is a privately-owned cryptocurrency exchange that allows customers to buy, sell, trade, and securely store more than 60 cryptocurrencies. Launched in 2014 by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss under the formal name Gemini Trust Co., LLC, Gemini has a tiered service with separate interfaces and fee structures for casual investors and hardcore traders.
The company is based in New York City and operates in over 70 countries worldwide. Gemini’s major selling points are security and ease of use. It supports trading in more than 120 cryptocurrencies and has its own currency, the Gemini stablecoin. Unlike most cryptocurrencies, the Gemini dollar is a “stablecoin” tied to the U.S. dollar.
