JAXA is the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. It is responsible for the development and implementation of Japan’s aerospace program. JAXA was created in 2003 through the merger of three organizations: the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA), and the Aerospace Exploration Agency (AEA).

 

JAXA’s mission is to “explore the universe, develop space technology, and contribute to the peaceful use of space for the benefit of humankind.” JAXA has a wide range of activities, including the development of satellites, rockets, and spacecraft; the conduct of scientific research in space; and the promotion of international cooperation in space exploration.
