The logistics technology landscape is seeing a major shakeup as Filics, a Munich-based robotics startup, has secured €13.5 million in fresh funding. This investment round, led by Bayern Kapital’s Bayern 2 growth fund and joined by Sandwater, Alven Capital Partners, F-LOG Ventures, the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, and other notable backers, is set to accelerate Filics’ mission to transform how warehouses operate across Europe.
At the heart of Filics’ innovation is the Filics Unit—a pair of ultra-flat, omnidirectional robots engineered to autonomously move Euro pallets and mesh boxes. Unlike traditional forklifts or AGVs, these robots slide directly under pallets, requiring only the footprint of the load itself. This design enables efficient use of tight warehouse spaces and supports omnidirectional movement, making them a standout solution for modern logistics challenges.
Space-saving technology: Filics claims its robots can reduce warehouse space needs by up to 30%, and up to 66% in floor block storage environments.
No fixed infrastructure required: The robots operate without the need for customized racks or fixed installations, offering flexibility and scalability for various warehouse layouts.
Heavy load handling: Each unit can move payloads up to 1.2 tons, covering the majority of standard intralogistics demands.
The demand for efficient, automated logistics solutions is surging as supply chains grow more complex and labor shortages persist. Filics’ technology addresses these pain points by automating pallet transport and reducing the need for specialized manual labor, a move that industry experts see as a significant leap forward for intralogistics.
Filics’ approach has already attracted attention from major players like Bosch, DHL Group, and Nagel Group, who are piloting the technology. The company plans to use the new funding to:
Advance product development for floor block storage by the end of 2025.
Expand into additional European markets in 2026.
Develop fully autonomous truck loading capabilities, aiming for under five minutes per truck in the medium term.
Investors and industry leaders are taking note. Monika Steger of Bavaria Capital highlights the robots’ compact design and maneuverability as key differentiators, while Amazon’s Industrial Innovation Fund points to the potential for significant space and energy savings in warehouse operations.
Filics, founded in 2019 and spun out of the Technical University of Munich, is rapidly scaling both its team and technology. With this latest funding milestone, the company is well-positioned to redefine pallet handling and set new standards for warehouse automation across Europe.
